Trundle Bed Covers
A Guide To The Three Different Trundle Bed Covers You May Need
The trundle bed is a great invention and has become very popular recently, but when you buy your trundle bed what trundle bed covers and linen will you also need?
The point of a trundle bed mattress is to be prepared and to be able to accommodate guests without a major organisational trauma. So to ensure that you have minimum hassle there are a few items which you should buy at the same time as purchasing the bed.
Here is an quick guide to what you are most likely to need to go with your trundle mattress and bed.
1. Trundle bed mattress covers. By this I mean the first protective layer of covering on the mattress. Since trundle beds fit under either a day bed or standard bed they are often slightly smaller in size and as a result you are best off buying your mattress cover with your mattress to ensure a wrinkle free fit.
2. Trundle bed skirt covers. These are the covers which go over the top of the mattress and cover the frame of the bed. They serve two purposes. Firstly, it is less obvious that it is a bed. But secondly and very importantly, they act as a dust cover, this means that you can have the bed made up with sheet underneath so it is ready for use at short notice and without having to make a bed while your guest waits.
3. Day and trundle bed combined covers. If you have a day bed with trundle, rather than a standard bed with trundle it is probably most efficient and looks more coordinated if you buy the ensembles sold by the manufacturers. These will be sure to fit and will also combine so that it looks like one item of furniture rather than a sofa with a mattress underneath.
There are a few other things to consider before you buy. The trundle bed has many different designs, but there are basically two types of mattress base. This is either a fixed base, so the trundle is always a low bed, or a popup trundle so that the trundle can be raised to the height of a standard bed. If your trundle is to go with a standard single it is probably worth getting a popup trundle as it means that you can put the two together and will be able to create a double bed.
Remember that if you are considering making a double guest bed out of your bed and trundle you will need to buy a design where by the trundle has only a minimal size difference with the main bed. If however, you are looking to create two twin beds, this is not such an important factor.
If your trundle is to go under a kids bed, then it is worth taking a few precautions to make sure that any sleep overs go smoothly. Firstly it is a good idea to have enough pillow slips and duvet covers to make sure that you can make both beds look the same. It is also worth having a popup as children can feel that if they are on a lower bed that it is supposed to be for a younger child, and all kids want to be treated as older rather than younger, so to avoid upset the popup will probably serve you better.
